Abstract:
Mr. AU will give a presentation on the development of Marine Police Region from 1841, showing the evolution of today's highly capable fleet, giving examples from Hong Kong's recent past of how criminals utilised technology to achieve a 'competitive advantage'.

He will then discuss the issue of how challenges associated with maintaining public order at sea are being addressed and provide an insight into future security strategies that are important for the Port of Hong Kong.

The provision of effective security at sea is evolving around the world. This presentation should provide an interesting insight into the local and international trend.

Biography:
Mr. AU Hok-lam joined the Police in 1971 as an Inspector, and has served across the Force in units such as Marine Region, Hong Kong Island and the New Territories, Police Tactical Unit and Police Headquarters. He began his career in Marine Region and has served in maritime Operational, Administration and Support positions at each rank. Mr. Au was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2004.
