Biography: Mr Lee was promoted to the rank of Superintendent in 1981 and to Chief Superintendent of Police in 1992. In 1995 he advanced to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police. Three years later in 1998 he was promoted to Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police. Mr Lee was the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) between January 2001 and October 2002, before taking up post as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations). His appointment as Commissioner of Police was effective from 10 December 2003. Throughout his 32 years of service in the Force Mr Lee has worked in a variety of posts in both crime investigation and general uniform branch policing. Between 1990 and 1992 he was seconded to the U.K. National Police Staff College, Bramshill as directing staff. He was the District Commander of Wanchai District in 1992, Deputy Regional Commander, New Territories North in 1994 and the Assistant Commissioner, Operations in 1995. In 1997 Mr Lee took charge of the security operations for the handover of sovereignty of Hong Kong. He also served as the Director of Management Services between April 1998 and April 1999 as well as the Director of Operations between April 1999 and January 2001. Mr Lee has been awarded the Queen's Police Medal and Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service as well as the HKSAR Chief Executive's Commendation, together with the Colonial and HKSAR Police Long Service Medals. Mr Lee was awarded in May 2004 with an Honorary Fellowship by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mr Lee is married with one son. |
